Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

06/05/2016 - College PREP - River Forest (Chicago), IL Marcus is a 2018 grad who continue to improve as a two way player. On the mound, a RHP who has solid delivery mechanics, finishes extended and balanced, and uses his lower half very well. Has a 3 pitch mix (FB/CB/CH) and can command all three well. His CH is his best pitch and he keeps hitters off balance with its cut action. Defensively, a first baseman who makes plays and picks the ball very well. Sports a solid arm, with good carry and has a good feel around the bag. At the plate, this RHHc continues to improve with his approach. Good balance, solid barrel accuracy help Marcus drive the ball to the the opposite field which should create higher averages moving forward.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Marcus continues to show improvement in multiple areas of his game. Defensively, he breaks down to the ball with control and a sure glove hand. His large frame and long arms give him a big target for his fielders to hit. On the DP, the ball comes out clean from his hand and shows accuracy. As he works to field low to high and develop more rhythm in his fielding, his abilities as a 1B will improve. At the plate, Marcus continues to drive the ball to all fields with his strong hands. He creates leverage with his backside and direct hands, lacing the ball deep into the gaps. As Marcus continues to work on a more level bat path, his hitting abilities will continue to improve. Overall, Marcus is a mature-sized freshman with skills to take him to the next level.

09/13/2015 - College PREP - Oak Creek (Milwaukee), WI Marcus is a lean is a thick 1B that will graduate in 2019. At the plate is where he shows best through a closed setup with balance. Hands are loose and aggressive working through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing middle of the field well. Power numbers will continue to improve as he loads more and works to use his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, he shows proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hand more out front and increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Marcus has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
