07/20/2016 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Marcus is a C/OF with an athletic frame (6'2"/170). He has plus foot speed as he ran a 6.96 60 time. Behind the plate, Marcus uses his feet efficiently and presents his hands when receiving the ball. Exchange is clean and he throws over the top with consistent accuracy. In the OF, Marcus covers a lot of ground and has great range to his glove side. He comes through fly balls well and gains momentum toward his target on his throws. Marcus can improve his defensive abilities by working on his lateral quickness. At the plate, Marcus is a line drive hitter with a square set up. He shows good balance in the box and has a short, square stride to the ball. His load is very smooth and he gets his lower half through and finishes with a firm front. He uses a direct swing path to produce consistent contact and some pull side pop. Marcus can improve his hitting abilities by staying on outside pitches longer and driving them to the opposite field. Overall, Marcus is a talented prospect and with two more years to develop he has the potential to contribute at the next level.

06/13/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Marcus improved his pop times behind the plate as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.21. He works to get rid of the baseball quickly through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. At the plate, he shows a soft / open setup with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off bat when centered. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. We have seen Marcus numerous times in the last few years and now that he is maturing and getting bigger/stronger, we are starting to see even more potential.

04/26/2015 - College PREP - Louisville, KY Marcus continues to show as an athletic and lean C/OF prospect. Offensively, he was consistently on-time to hit and delivered the barrel on a level path. He worked his hands and hips together and got extended through the baseball. Behind the plate, he tracked the ball into the glove after presenting a low target and threw with a 2.3 pop. Improving arm strength through a throwing program and becoming more sure with the glove are two areas of catching focus. In the OF, he got the hands out in front to make plays with a sure glove and was controlled with his body. He took good routes / angles to the ball and as he eliminates a little of the drift, he will improve play. In all - we enjoy seeing the upward trend of growth Marcus has and is offering as he now is moving through high school.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Marcus is a young, 2018 catcher with a projectable body. At the plate, Marcus has a wide, balanced setup, uses his lower half efficiently and displays good timing. He has the ability to hit for power as he grows into his lean, long body. Behind the plate, Marcus moves well laterally, he tracks the ball well and deadens the ball on center while blocking. Better footwork behind the plate will improve the quickness of his exchange and transfer and a long toss program will increase his arm strength, bringing his pop times down significantly. Marcus is a player that is dedicated to the sport and strives to get better.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City We have seen Marcus a few times, and he continues to show us improvements along the way. He is an athletic catcher that shows good leadership skills behind the plate. He receives with firm hands, uses proper blocking technique, and makes strong accurate throws with good carry to 2nd base. At the plate he has an athletic setup with good balance. He has a quick bat and works to keep his hands inside the ball. He made solid contact in BP and games spraying the ball to all fields. Now 5'10, 145, Marcus is really starting to physically mature, and he has maintained good athletic indicators while doing so (7.64 60 yard dash and 74 mph arm strength as 8th grader). As we have previously noted, he will be a player to watch if he continues to work hard.

04/13/2014 - National Tryout - Louisville, KY Marcus continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, Marcus has quiet actions, he sticks the ball well, and he blocks well. He has a clean transfer and good accuracy to 2nd base. In the OF, Marcus is aggressive to the ball, he uses 2 hands, and he catches at its highest point. At the plate, Marcus has a level, rhythmic swing, good balance, and he makes consistent contact.

02/28/2014 - Yankees Spring Training Experience Marcus is a great listener that has shown tremendous improvement after each event. Defensively, he has become a above average blocker, with a good feel for centering the ball. His hands are soft and sure with good control. He will need to focus on becoming more of a vocal leader and improve on his arm angle/ grip to further his development. At the plate, Marcus displayed good gap to gap power with an excellent barrel delivery. His mechanics are solid, the next step is developing more of an aggressive approach. Its been awesome to see his growth and with High School around the corner Marcus is shaping out to be a special player at the next level.

07/07/2013 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Marcus did a nice job at the Cape Cod event and made good improvements. Behind the plate he has a good setup and did a very good job receiving and blocking but he needs to improve his lateral movement and arm strength/throwing mechanics (stay on top of the ball). As the camp went on, we saw an improvement in Marcus' defense--in particular his blocking--so he showed a good aptitude to make adjustments. At the plate Marcus has an athletic setup, aggressive approach and is balanced. Areas for improvement are shortening swing path, staying tall, getting top hand through and extending through the ball.

11/15/2012 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City While at Pirate City Marcus showed good potential especially in the OF and at the plate. He also cut over a half second off of his 60 yard dash from when we last saw him this summer. As a fielder, she showed fluid and efficient footwork, soft hands, and overall athleticism. He needs to work on going back on the ball and needs to get on top on his throws to maximize backspin/carry. On the mound Marcus displayed good separation, balance point with hips coiling well, he stays in-line and competes. He needs to use the towel drill to help him with extension/finish and speed up his arm action. Also long toss will help him with arm strength. At the plate he has an aggressive approach, good load, and uses the entire field. Marcus needs to keep his lower half from breaking down, swing through the ball and keep his eyes level during his swing. Marcus did a very nice job at Pirate City. He showed the willingness to learn and is a very good teammate.

07/08/2012 - Select Training at the All-Star Game (Pre HS) Marcus is a young 2018 graduate who plays OF/RHP. As an outfielder he has sure hands, active feet and he is a hustler. Marcus showed very good improvement taking angles to balls, playing through and getting behind. He needs to polish his fundamentals and long toss. On the mound, Marcus is a competitor and he did a nice job from distances longer than what he is used to. He needs to use his lower half and get more extension out front. At the plate Marcus showed an athletic set-up, good balance and his lower half gets through, but he needs to stride at the pitcher and his timing needs to improve. As he matures Marcus will naturally improve but if he works hard on his fundamentals he can be a successful player in the future.

05/20/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Louisville, KY Marcus is a young, thin, 2-way player who plays OF and RHP. Defensively, Marcus has active feet, okay hands, and he makes the routine plays. He has a clean exchange and throws with accuracy to his cutoff man. On the mound, Marcus has a long / easy arm action, a tall balance point, and on-time separation. He has level shoulders, he works in good rhythm, and he lands in a square position. At the plate, Marcus has a square set-up, good balance, and a level swing. He swings in good rhythm, makes consistent contact, and he uses some lower 1/2. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quicken exchange
2. Soften glove
3. Long toss
Pitching
1. Finish / bend
2. Quick arm speed
Offense
1. Stride
2. Shorten swing
3. Let ball travel

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
