Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

04/25/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Midland, TX Mario is a 2023 RHP/3B. Thick build, with strength present and room to fill out. Primary 3B, starts with a good pre-pitch routine and efficient feet. Athletic fielding position and good body control. Consistent throws with good carry from a high 3/4 arm slot and an arm velocity of 75mph. Good feet and glove angle on backhands. Secondary RHP with a clean arm action on the mound with good balance in his mechanics. High 3/4 arm slot creates downhill plane. Uses lower half well and repeats his delivery. Fastball topped out at 71mph with good arm side run. Changeup was his best secondary pitch as it mimicked his fastball. Flashed a CB with 9/3 shape. Right-handed hitter with an even and athletic stance. Quiet head/eyes allow him to track pitches well. Direct to the ball with an inside/out path allows him to make consistent contact. Hit line drives to all fields during BP with a bat exit velocity of 86mph. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we see him having opportunities to play at the next level.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Mario is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect that was a solid teammate. On the bump, Mario gathers over the rubber, he finds his balance point, and separates on time. He has a simple down hill delivery and rides his back leg to the plate. He throws his fastball for strikes, has a medium break on his curveball, and sinks his knuckleball. At the hot corner, Mario is on time with his prep step, presents a low/early glove, and plays through his backhand. He creates good angles to the ball and makes strong throws. At the plate, Mario starts in a closed stance, he hunts the fastball early, and swings with intent. He makes consistent contact and looks to drive the ball gap to gap. Mario will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Mario is an athletic and hard-working 2023 2-way prospect with high energy. At the hot corner, Mario presents a low/early glove, and works from the ground up. He has good footwork and makes accurate throws. He needs to continue to be on time with his prep step and improve his first step to the ball. At the plate, Mario has loose hands, he gets his front foot down on time, and has a level swing path. He's aggressive on fastballs and hits the ball to all fields. He needs to continue to load his hands back and create backside drive with his lower half. On the bump, Mario gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and finds his balance point. He uses his legs well and works downhill in his delivery. Mario will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Mario is an athletic and talented 2023 3B prospect who was coachable, a great teammate, and had high energy. At the hot corner, Mario is on time with his prep step, he anticipates the ball off the bat, and presents a low/early glove. He has good footwork on double plays and makes accurate throws. He needs to continue to build arm strength through his throwing program and improve his first step to the ball. At the plate, Mario starts in a squared stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and gets his front foot down on time. He keeps the barrel on plane with the ball and makes consistent hard contact. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and create backside drive with his lower half. Mario will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
