01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Demko showed similar abilities as we had previously seen at Arizona Fall Classic. Feet are quick / aggressive as he attacks ground balls in the MIF, displaying soft / sure hands. He needs to present his hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grades. Throws show accuracy / carry into his target. At the plate, Mark shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, generating bat speed as he takes a hack. His lower half works well and he shows good barrel accuracy with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to transfer weight properly through his lower half.

10/12/2011 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2011 Mark is the kind of young player that every coach likes to have. He is a competent middle infielder who loves to compete and swings from the left side. In the field, he shows excellent instincts and his quick-twitch reactions lead to solid range. His hands are soft and sure and his arm across the diamond is accurate after a clean exchange and quick release. At the plate, Mark has an advanced approach with excellent strike-zone judgement and a polished line drive stroke. He uses the whole field well and can handle the bat well giving him the profile of a quality #2 hitter at the next level. Mark is a gamer who works hard and continues to improve each time we see him. He has lowered his 60 time down to 6.92 and continues to refine his overall game. We feel that Mark will have an easy transition to the next level.

10/02/2011 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Mark showed solid defensive skills and similar offensive abilities during his last workout in Trenton, NJ. He has soft / sure hands, good footwork, and he fields in a low / athletic position. He shows a good idea, he covers ground well, and he plays through the ball. Mark has a quick exchange, and he throws with a short / quick arm action carry across the diamond. At the plate, Mark has a square / athletic set-up, a proper load, and a short / square stride. He has good balance, bat speed, and he makes square / consistent contact. Mark swings in good rhythm, he has a line drive approach, and he gets his lower 1/2 through the ball.

07/24/2011 - Team One Northeast 2011 At Mark's most recent workout at Team One he showed good foot speed from his thin frame. Mark has quick feet defensively, he is aggressive to the ball, and he fields from the right. He has soft / sure hands, he fields the ball cleanly, and he works the double play nicely. Mark has a quick exchange and he delivers the ball with accuracy from a loose arm action. Offensively, Mark is a contact hitter with good bat speed and a level swing. He works the middle of the field, he hits line drives, and he has good strike zone awareness.

07/15/2011 - Team One South 2011 Demko showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in Bowie, MD. Feet are active and display fluid actions in the MIF. Hands are soft / sure and presented down and out front as he makes all the plays. He moves well laterally, displaying range and gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws are accurate but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength with carry. Offensively, Mark shows a solid setup with balanced and tracks the ball well. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a plus feel for the barrel. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently with proper weight transfer. At the event, he was 2 for 5.

05/29/2011 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Mark showed solid INF skills and improvements at the plate during his last workout in Bowie, MD. He increased his radar velocity from 78 to 81 MPH. Defensively, Mark has soft / sure hands, he fields from the right, and his feet are quick and active. He gets his glove down early, fields out in front of his body, and he works the double play nicely. Mark has a quick / clean exchange and throws from all arm angles with accuracy to his target. Continuing to add arm strength will only help defensive grades rise. Offensively, Mark improved both his hitting and power grades from 45 to 48 and 42 to 45 respectively. He has a tall / open set-up, good balance, and a rhythmic swing. Mark has good bat speed, a short stroke, and he swings in good rhythm. A looser grip and letting the ball travel deeper could help grades continue to rise.

10/20/2010 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic - 2010 Mark is a strong, compact middle infielder. At the Arizona Junior Fall Classic, he showed good instincts with the glove and his footwork. He will continue to improve with more repetition and a consistent long toss program. He has balanced approach offensively with good rhythm and an effective load. Sprays the ball around well with near average power. He is a great kid who brings good energy to the yard consistently. Loves to play the game and as he develops physically, his tools should improve.

10/03/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Mark participated in Trenton as a SS only and showed solid improvements in both his defensive and offensive numbers. Defensively, Mark has very good footwork and good / soft hands. He works from the right, he keeps his feet moving, and he has an early glove. He moves well laterally and has good momentum toward his target. Mark improved his fielding grade from 45 to 50 during the workout. Abilities can continue to improve if Mark can finish off his throws and continue to add arm strength. Offensively, Mark has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has a solid set-up, and a short / level swing. Mark gets his front foot down early and has quick hands. If Mark can loosen his grip and tap into more lower 1/2, offensive numbers can get even better.

01/10/2010 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ Mark showed improvements in his baseball abilities 1/10 in Hightstown. He is a solidly build SS, that still has 3 seasons to work on his game. Mark has good footwork and hands in the infield, and improved his fielding grade from 42 to 45. He moves well laterally, looks the ball into his glove, and has an accurate throwing arm. Mark's arm grade improved from 40 to 42 as well. Added arm strength and staying in a lower fielding position longer are recommended for this young player to keep improving. Offensively, Mark has good balance and a sound set-up. He has good hitting mechanics, quiet actions, and a level swing. He tries to stay inside the baseball, and with normal growth, maturity, and added physical strength, Mark will get better.

10/04/2009 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Mark had a good workout as he improved his hitting and power grades. At the plate, showed a good set-up with quiet actions which allowed him to keep hands direct to hitting zone. Level swing thru hitting zone allowed him to have extension thru ball and hit line drives all over the field. As he matures, overall strength will improve as well as power. Demonstrated good balance and use of lower half. At SS, presented well and fielded ball from the right which allowed him to play thru ball aggressively. Showed soft hands as he fielded out front and played BH well. Made accurate throws to 2B and 1B. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. Range will improve as his foot speed increases. Played the DP very well with quick feeds and turns. Currently, he shows best at 2B at the next level.

07/10/2008 - Cape Cod Training 2008 - Week 1 Demko showed excellent hand-eye coordination, along with very good bat speed. His approach was aggressive, and he showed gap power. Has all the makings of a naturally talented offensive player. Must work to attack the top half of the ball, hits too many fly balls at present. Defensively, he showed excellent actions and soft hands. His body control was good as well. Can work to use his feet better, and to improve his overall agility and quickness. Ran 7.60 in the 60-yard dash.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
