06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Mark continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range is outstanding as he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic / open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 6 for 12 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

03/19/2017 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Mark is solid OF/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.25. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive as he works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally, covering ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open/ athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus fell for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more and keep both hands at bat through contact. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 65-67 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Slider looks just like curveball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mark has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
