02/20/2017 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Mark continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid runner at 7.38. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting / power potential. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and aggressive working through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 70-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Mark is an athletic 2-way player that continues to show improvement each outing. This southpaw throws from the hi 3/4-arm slot with sneaky delivery as he mixes his 3 pitches. He is mechanically sound with a simple approach to the plate. As he continues to develop strength and feel for the strike zone, he will be a threat from the left side. In the OF, he competes at all times, makes the routine plays and communicates well. As his foot speed is continuing to increase, he will see the ability to track down more balls as he keeps a still head. At the plate, this LHH is a smooth swinging contact hitter with a feel for the entire plate. He uses all fields and keeps two hands on the bat, allowing for great bat control. As Mark develops physical strength and remains a student of the game, he will see his abilities improve and take him to the next level.

03/22/2015 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Mark continues to work hard at his game and is developing into a fine, young player. In the OF, Mark showed a good ready position, rounds the ball to get his momentum behind it and throws with accuracy. Fielding the ball out front and following his throws will improve carry and pin-point accuracy. On the mound, Mark throws from a 3/4 slot with smooth arm action and plus control. He sets a good pace, uses his lower 1/2 to drive towards the plate and gets good extension through the pitch. He flashed a 3-pitch mix with a solid CH and developing CB. At the plate, this LHH showed a soft, smooth stroke with good use of his lower 1/2. Continuing to develop strength and working on his secondary pitches will allow him to take his abilities to the next level.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Mark show as an OF/LHP at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target, and continue to increase foot quickness. Throws display accuracy but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker to improve arm grade. At the plate, he displays an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path through an aggressive approach. He works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. At the event, he was 1 for 3 with 2 BB as he shows a solid eye. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 62- 68 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and develop better off speed stuff. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays with a lot of energy and is very coachable, working hard to be the best player he can be.

08/23/2014 - National Tryout - Purchase, NY Mark continues to work hard on his game. In the OF, he is aggressive and takes a quick first step. He moves well laterally, makes the plays, and plays through the ball toward his target. With the bat, Mark shows a balanced approach with patience waiting for his pitch. He swings hard through a level path and pulls the ball. Working back into a loaded position will help to improve rhythm/timing. On the bump, FB now tops out at 67 mph as it has run. He hides the ball which comes off a little deceptive to hitters. Changeup shows to be best off-speed pitch as it has run as he can spot it up well. Extension through his finish will help to improve effectiveness on the bump. A 2017 grad - Mark still has a lot of time to develop his skills.

07/12/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Mark is a young OF/LHP that will graduate in 2017. He utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness and gets more reps. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a closed setup and aggressive approach. Hands are quick, and work through level swing path. He makes consistent contact, showing a line drive approach with plus barrel accuracy. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more and adds overall body strength. At the event, he was 1 for 2 with a BB. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 63-66 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break and he maintains arm speed on his changeup. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, works to throw more strikes, and develops better off speed stuff. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, plays hard, and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Mark has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
