07/28/2023 - Baseball Factory National World Series at JRTC (HS) Masataka continues to shine with his baseball abilities on the diamond. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves his foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73mph. Fastball showed a range of 72-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sink. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate and is very coachable on the field.

07/16/2022 - Baseball Factory National World Series at IMG Academy - (MS) Masataka is a SS/RHP prospect in the class of 2026. At the plate, he does a very good job of consistently finding the barrel. Shows lots of athleticism throughout his swing. Flashes quick hand speed and the ability to extend through the baseball. Works gap-to-gap with power potential. In the field, he does a good job of picking out hops. Does a good job of keeping his eyes behind the backhand and working down to up. Shows the ability to change arm angles. Creates momentum to throw. On the mound, he delivers all pitches from a ¾ arm slot. Flashes the ability to throw 3 pitches for strikes. Masataka is a well-rounded prospect with a bright future that we hope to see again soon.

02/13/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Jose, CA Masataka is a SS/RHP out of Menlo Park, CA in the class of 2026. Defensively, he is very fundamentally sound by having good footwork and glove presentation. He fields with soft hands after reading the correct hops and throws accurately with a quick release to his targets. As a hitter, he showed great balance in his swing matched with great timing which allowed him to make solid contact consistently. He had an on plane bat path which enabled him to hit the ball to all fields in his approach. On the mound, he was very mature with his mechanics showing great balance and control with a consistent release point. He mixed 4 pitches which included a fastball with life, breaking ball with 11/5 action, a sharp slider and a good change up for his age. Masataka is a promising prospect for his age and if he continues to develop we believe he has a bright future ahead of him.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
