01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Mason is an athletic C/OF prospect who continued to show well at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. Behind the plate, Mason shows efficient foot when blocking balls in the dirt. He receives the ball with soft hands and makes consistently on-line throws to 2B. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He shows a smooth rhythm in the box and maintains center balance. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed which leads to square contact and line drives. Mason is a talented prospect who has upside on the diamond.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Mason is a young (2022 grad) 2-way player C/OF who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. With the bat, this RHH has a square setup with centered balance and a solid base. He has rhythm in his hands, swings on a level path and looks to drive the middle of the field. He battled at the plate and put the bat on the ball in almost every at bat. Behind the plate, Mason sits in and tracks pitches into his mitt. He sticks pitches in the zone - framing well. Exchange is clean as he works in-line toward his target at 2B on throws down - pop times at 2.98. Continuing to develop his footwork to throw as well as he lateral quickness to block will aid in his defensive development. Balsis still has a ton of time to get stronger (physically mature) and develop his all-around skill-set.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
