Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

12/06/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sacramento, CA We last saw Mason in September 2020 and in three short months, he has improved markedly. Raw arm strength up from 73mph to 80mph, broad jump up from 6'11" to 7'9" and exit velocity up from 71mph to 77mph off of the tee. Where Mason shines the most is on the defensive front. He shows pre-pitch movement which allows him to have an explosive first step and his exchange from glove to hand is quick and clean. At the plate, he gets extension which allows for a solid finish. On the mound, he shows a compact/aggressive push towards home plate and he keeps the ball down in the zone. This 2024 grad is one to watch.

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Mason is a 2B/RHP prospect who showcased his skills at the All-Region Tournament. In the field, Mason shows quick footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He has a clean exchange and consistently makes on-line throws to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance with center balance. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He generates fast bat speed through the zone, producing solid contact to his pull side. On the mound, Mason gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and stays inline toward the plate. Mason shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits at 63mph with 10-4 break. With four more years to develop, Mason has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

05/06/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Arcata, CA Mason is an athletic, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and catcher. In the INF, Mason has active feet, he fields the ball aggressively, and he fields in a low position. He fields cleanly, has a quick exchange, and throws with accuracy from a short arm action to his target. Behind the plate, Mason sticks the ball well, he has good footwork, and an accurate arm to 2nd base. Offensively Mason has a tall set-up, good balance, and he flashes some pop in his bat. He hits from a firm front side and works the ball well to the opposite field. Mason can continue to improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Hands
2. Range
3. Pre-pitch actions
Catching
1. Release
2. Set-up
Offense
1. Swing path
2. Timing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
