07/01/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Chico, CA Mason showed well behind the plate during his last workout with The Factory. He has firm hands and sticks the ball well. Mason has agile movements, blocks and receives properly, and has a short arm action to 2nd base. At the plate, Mason is currently a better hitter from the right side. He has a tall set-up, loads well, and makes square contact. Mason rotates his lower body well and hits to the opposite field. From the left side, Mason has quick hands, good balance, and he works the middle of the field.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Mason is a young, switch hitting catcher, who proved to be a great competitor with a true passion for the game in his time in Arizona. Behind the dish, he blocked balls in the dirt well as he dropped to the ground quickly, kept his chin low and his glove out in front of him. Receiving was also a plus, as he tracked balls all the way into his mitt and kept a still head. On his throws to 2nd, he did a fine job of hopping up quickly, gaining ground to his target and then throwing accurately to the base. Long tossing to develop arm strength, will help him greatly in the long run. Offensively, he worked the middle of the field through a crouched and athletic setup. Stride was short and on time, as he remained balanced throughout his swing, kept a flat barrel and threw his hands at the ball. Driving his back hip to the pitcher once he starts his swing, will help him develop more power to all fields. Overall, Mason is a gamer who already shows promising upside on the diamond, on both sides of the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
