10/02/2011 - College PREP - North Little Rock, AR
Mason improved on several areas of his game including his arm strength and velocity at the tryout in North Little Rock. Defensively, he continues to show active feet and plays through the ball well. Offensively at the plate, Chapmond continues to show his aggressiveness attacking the ball with quick hands and a direct barrel. More consistent contact and increased bat speed will continue to help Mason's hitting abilities increase.
06/17/2011 - Arkansas Tryout
Mason is a young, thin, lanky 2nd baseman who will graduate in 2013. Defensively, Mason has firm hands, quick / active feet, and he works to the ball smoothly. He has good lateral movements, he fields in a square / athletic position, and he works the double play nicely. Mason has a clean / quick exchange, and he throws with a short / quick arm action with accuracy and carry to his target. Defensive grades can get better with softer hands, not being over aggressive, and continuing to add arm strength. At the plate, Mason has a crouched stance, a proper load, and a short stride. He is an aggressive hitter with average bat speed, who makes square contact through a level swing plane. Mason stays inside the ball well, he has pop to the pull side, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Hitting can spike by not lunging to the ball, avoiding over rotation, and better rhythm and timing.
