01/26/2020 - College PREP - Myrtle Beach, SC Mason showed improvements in his game and is now at class 2 OF! He increased radar velocity to 92 MPH, defensive numbers spiked, and offensive grades improved as well. He is a tall, athletic, OF with a rocket for an arm. Mason has active feet, he covers ground, and makes all the plays. He tracks smoothly, his exchange is clean, and he throws with plus strength and accuracy through to his target. At the plate, Mason stands in athletically, he has quick hands, and explosive bat speed. He makes hard/consistent contact, the ball jumps off the bat, and he uses his lower body well. Mason is a talented player with a high ceiling.

11/02/2014 - National Tryout - Wilsonville (Portland), OR Mason continues to work hard on his game. With the bat, this RHH shows a closed setup with patience. He has a strong upper 1/2 and swings the bat with authority. He squares it up and hits line-drives. Letting the ball travel deeper into the zone will help him to use the whole field. At 2B, Mason takes good angles around the ground ball and works from right to left through it. He is fundamentally sound and is sure handed. Continuing to develop more arm strength will only help his defensive play. Only a 2020 grad - Mason has a ton of time to develop his skills.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Mason continues to show consistency in his overall abilities. Defensively, he showed the ability to be quick with his double play feeds and smooth on slow rollers. His fielding position is square, but will need to work on playing lower. Improving his foot speed through agility drills will help his overall fielding grades. Offensively, this time Mason showed better rhythm in the box with a good feel for the strike zone. His path was direct, with good balance through his swing. Mason can improve if he uses his lower half more, which should come as he continues to physically mature.

09/28/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Mason is a young middle infielder. This 2B has a quick first step and works to get into a square fielding position. He works to the ball and makes the routine plays. At the plate, this righty displays a tall stance and left-lift type load. He keeps his eyes on the ball and squares it up. Work on the following will help to improve his overall game.

Defense
1. Mechanics
2. Arm strength
3. Body control
Offense
1. Rhythm/Timing
2. Swing path
3. Lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
