06/13/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Troy (Albany), NY Mason is a lean OF/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls and plays with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine, through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 64 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. With 3 years to further develop, Mason has the makings of a special type player with time and room to improve his game.

06/26/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Troy (Albany), NY Mason is a young (2024 grad) L/L 2-way player as a SS/LHP. Defensively at SS, he hustles to his right and left working behind the GB. He gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Offensively, Mason has an aggressive approach and is looking to swing it. He tracks the ball into the zone and off of the barrel, hitting line-drives. On the mound, he works to a controlled balance point and stays directional toward the plate. FB tops out at 52 mph as he throws it for strikes. Continuing to work on the following will help to improve skills on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
