12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Mason shined once again at the Winter Classic. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up but needs to attack, playing through more with his body. Glove action is soft / clean and presents out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he showed an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 59-63 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

09/30/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Raleigh, NC Mason is a long, lean, 2-way player who plays 3B and RHP. Defensively, Mason has efficient footwork, he fields aggressively, and has good body control to the ball. He presents well, has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Mason has a compact delivery, a loose arm action, and he competes in the strike zone with his pitches. At the plate, Mason can switch hit. From the right side, Mason has good balance, he swings aggressively, and makes square contact. From the left side, Mason tracks well, stands in well balanced, and gets good extension through the ball. Overall skills can get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
