10/11/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Mason continues to develop his skills on the diamond, especially behind the plate. Defensively, he continues to work with smooth sway and soft receiving skills. Balls in the dirt are blocked with ease as he works hard to get around, using his solid lower 1/2. Throws are consistent in the 2.1 - 2.2 range and will only improve with foot speed and arm strength. At 3B, he gets excellent reads on GBs and works from low to hi, fielding the ball out front. His DP turns are quick with a clean exchange and smooth arm slot. Offensively, he hits from a solid, strong setup with rhythmic hands. His power potential plays at the next level with the ability to fill out his lean frame and learn to hit behind the ball. In all, Mason continues to show consistency in his game and will be a reliable backstop in any next level program.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Mason is a solid catcher that will graduate in 2016 with a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.11-2.26 with accuracy on his throws and works to get rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show potential as being quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying solid hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and makes consistent contact as he shows a solid feel for barrel, displaying gap to gap power. At the event, he was 2 for 9 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, loves to compete, and displays plus instincts behind the plate.. Mason has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
