12/27/2018 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Mason is a well-rounded C/IF prospect who has skill on both sides of the ball. Behind the plate, Mason show top level catching skills and plays the position athletically. He presents a low target and receives the ball well. Mason has a quick, clean exchange leading into a short arm action. He gets rid of it quickly throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. Mason has strong arm strength and shows consistently accurate throws to 2B. He is quick to his knees and provides a good angle when blocking the baseball. Offensively, Mason has an athletic setup with an aggressive approach. He has loose hands and a centered balance. Mason shows fluid rhythm with a square stride. He has a compact swing and lands the barrel to the baseball. Mason gets good rotation and can drive the ball to each gap with power. He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Overall, Mason plays the game athletically and has upside to get even better.

10/07/2018 - College PREP - Austin, TX Mason is a lean, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.89. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.12-2.38 with accuracy on his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone through an athletic setup. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front and is a wall behind the plate. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 2 years to further develop, Mason has a ton of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
