  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Mason competed as both an OF/LHP at his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he showed an ability to make plays, after prepping his feet, and had a clean exchange after the catch to throw. At the dish, he had decent rhythm to hit with a quiet head and ran hard 90's to pressure the defense. He stayed behind contact nicely and has more bat whip in his lower half. On the hill, he commanded his FB with run from 78-82, spun a SL from 64-65, and showed a cut CH from 73-74. He repeated his mechanics well and had a good arm slot that was deceptive. He was in control through his delivery with a good tempo and he worked around the zone well. Overall - Mason is an athletic two-way guy that should have a strong spring season all around the diamond.

08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Mason had a tremendous tournament in Pirate City and was named the MVP of the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, an excellent runner at 6.69. He utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground as he takes proper routes / angles, displaying outstanding range. Hands / feet work well through the fielding process and he works to get behind balls, playing through well. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 79 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-79 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break, displaying depth. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with cutting action. Command is outstanding as he pounds the zone with all his pitches and works to get ahead of hitters. He maintains excellent poise on the mound with stock rising as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, is very coachable, and works hard with a lot of energy.

06/15/2015 - College PREP - Tomball (Houston), TX Mason is a talented (6'0"/150) 2-way player as an OF/LHP. On the mound, this lefty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. FB ranges from 74-78 mph as he works it to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball has 2/8 shape with gradual action. He keeps level shoulders and gets good glove side lead. A longer stride and more lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. In the OF, Mason has quick footwork and is aggressive to track down fly-balls. He secures the ball and gains ground toward his target. With the bat, this LHH has a balanced setup with rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is quick/short/direct resulting in hard hit line-drives. Mason is a solid all-around ballplayer who will make an impact in many aspects of the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
