Official Scouting Report

  • 6Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Mason is a coachable 3B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Recruiting Classic. In the field, Mason shows efficient footwork with a quick first step. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making strong/accurate throws to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He gets his hands activated on time and works through a level swing, driving the ball to his pull side. On the mound, Mason shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits at 60mph with 10-4 break. Overall, Mason is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Mason continues to shine on the diamond. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. Fastball shows good sink. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

02/16/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Sioux Falls, SD Mason showed nice improvements in his overall game during his last workout with The Factory. He increased arm strength to 72 MPH, exit velocity to 74 MPH, and hitting improved. On the mound, Mason has a clean arm circle, good balance over the rubber, and he separates his hands in time. He has a compact motion, he gets good extension on his pitches, and finishes completely toward his target. At 3B, Mason gets in a good ready position, he has quick feet, and fields in a square position. He attacks the ball aggressively, flashes a good backhand, and throws with accuracy across the diamond. At the plate, this RHH has a tall stance, good balance, and he makes solid contact. He works the middle of the field well, and shows the ability to spray to all fields.

02/23/2019 - College Recruiting Day - Sioux Falls, SD Mason is a tall 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2022. In the field, Mason shows active footwork and makes the routine plays. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Mason improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He leads well with his lower half and drives the ball to all fields. Mason can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Mason gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, finishing square to the plate. Mason shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 68mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 54-55mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 56-59mph. Striding square towards the plate can help Mason improve as a pitcher. With three more years to develop, Mason has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
