06/06/2020 - 2020 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Mason was dominant at the BF Texas Showcase. He showed an athletic delivery with 3 excellent offerings. His fastball was up to 95 mph and got on hitters in a hurry. He pounded the zone, getting some downhill plane to it and also mixing in a 2-seamer that had good run. Mason's breaking ball had tight spin and depth to it creating swing-and-miss and acting as an out pitch. He also threw a change that had some sink and tail. Though he didn't need to throw it much in that outing it did show promise. Mason commanded all of his pitches well and showed the traits that you look for in a high level starting pitching prospect.

10/20/2019 - 2019 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures Texas Mason is a 3B/RHP who can swing it. At the plate, he has pro level hitting/power abilities. He has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He takes an absolute hack, crushing the ball to deep parts of the park (exit velocity = 91 mph). At 3B, he has plus lateral range (6.70 60 time), working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping across the diamond. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 88-89 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late/sharp break and is his out pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for the pitch. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all pitches. With 2 years to further develop, Mason has big upside and will get looks from pro scouts with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
