12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Mason is a very coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. At 3B, he is a smooth / fluid fielder with hands / feet working well together as he plays through the ball toward his target. Skills in the INF will improve as he works to present his glove and field the GB more out in front (not letting it get deep). Offensively, he works on time and uses his lower half well through a short / direct swing path. Hands are quick and work inside the ball as he utilizes all fields through a level swing path, hitting line-drives. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, fastball showed in the mid 60 range with sinking action - which results in GB outs. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He repeats his delivery well and finishes in a good fielding position. With 5 years to further develop, Mason has a lot of potential with a bright future ahead of him in the game.

11/14/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Pearland, TX Mason is a tall/projectable 2-way player (3B/RHP). With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced setup with rhythm to load. Hands are quick as he connects and sprays the ball with pop. At 3B, Mason hustles into a square fielding position and gathers well. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws to his target. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot an clean arm action. He maintains smooth rhythm/tempo, works to a tall balance point and stays directional toward the dish. FB ranges form 61-65 mph while showing sink. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with good action. Changeup has sink and is thrown with FB arm speed - proving to be best off-speed pitch. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
