Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

09/16/2015 - Under Armour Fall Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Mason is a proven hard worker who has made great strides in his game. This tall/strong (6'3"/200) RHP attacks the zone and challenges hitters with his gamer mentality. FB has good life jumping out of his hand with some arm side run (83-86 mph). He works the ball in and out and can hit his spots well. Curveball shows 10/4 shape as he mixes it effectively. Changeup is best off-speed as it has tail and is thrown with FB arm speed helping to create deception. Continuing to develop more consistency on his breaking ball will only make him that much more effective. As a hitter - Mason shows a tall/balanced setup with a strong base. He swings with authority and connects with strength - driving the ball with pop (exit velocity = 92 mph) to all parts of the field. He puts the ball in play and puts pressure on the defense. Mason is a proven athlete (6.90 - 60 yard dash) who can make things happen in a variety of ways on the diamond. A 2017 grad - he is a player to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

12/27/2012 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Vero Beach Mason continues to show progress in his overall ability. Currently he projects to be a very solid pitcher moving into high school next year. On the mound, Mason has excellent control of his fastball with smooth actions and good finish on his delivery. As he moves into high school he will need to develop a secondary pitch to compliment his FB. Mason shows the ability to play the infield due to his athletic ability but shows the ability to be an excellent Outfielder with long limbs and loose arm action. Offensively, Mason showed power potential but can continue to get more drive from his lower half. Mason is a great kid with good character who shows promise as he continues to mature.

07/17/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 3 Mason O'Mara is a 2017 graduate who plays 3rd base and also pitches. In the infield Mason has firm hands, active feet, and shows playable range in the field. At the plate Mason has an athletic set up, a short and squared stride, and has stable balance. He makes consistent contact, but would like to see him work on his timing at the plate. On the mound Mason shows his athleticism and a good tempo. Has a nice fastball with arm side run and late sink. He gets to a good balance point and repeats his delivery with every pitch. Mason is a tall athletic player who has a bright future ahead of him in the game of baseball.

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Mason is a 2017 graduate who plays third base and pitches. In the field mason throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a loose action. He fields with 2 hands and out in front of his body. He has active feet, but needs to work on staying in line to allow him to be more consistent. His fielding position is tall, but gets to an athletic position when needed. At the plate Mason keeps his hands high with a tall set up. He has a smooth load and a short stride. He uses his lower half and consistently hit line drives in batting practice and games. His bat path is on a level plane and he has fluent timing. On the mound Mason throws with a loose arm action. He is athletic and holds runners well. He is controlled on the mound and finishes his pitches well. He is balanced and stays in line with his delivery. Mason had a good camp and consistently made improvements throughout the week. He is very coachable and wants to continue to learn. With his attitude and determination Mason will only get better with age.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
