12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Mason continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. He has improved his baseball abilities. At 3B, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays quick, athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, power abilities have improved, now showing solid potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 3 for 9 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 69-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break and shows potential as being a quality pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, wants to learn, and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/31/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Gillette, WY Mason is a 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2019. He takes a direct route to the ball and extends through the zone well with excellent bat speed. On the mound, Mason shows a three pitch mix with his fastball sitting from 72-75mph. Breaking ball ranges from 60-63mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 62-65mph with good sinking action. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following. Fielding 1. Attack the ball 2. 07/26/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Gillette, WY Mason only showed defensively during the event. At 3B, he has efficient footwork and comes to get the GB working into a square fielding position. Hands are soft/sure as he gathers well, with a clean exchange to throw. Playing through the ball and gaining more ground toward 1B will help to improve skills at the hot corner.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Mason is a great kid who has a high baseball IQ, and communicates well in the infield. He is constantly positive and hustling, making needed adjustments along the way. He is a two-way player SS/RHP with great potential in the field and on the bump. Defensively Mason gets the job done, making the plays he needs to make, and hustling constantly. He shows solid footwork in the infield with good angles to the baseball allowing him to get to some tough baseballs. He also displays a good consistent fielding position allowing him field the baseball out front and letting his hands work through the baseball. At the plate Mason shows a quiet simple setup with good balance throughout the swing. He keeps his head still and in the middle of his body during the swing, allowing him to make consistent contact to the middle of the field. On the mound he shows the ability to throw three pitches for strikes, and control the strike zone. He shows an understanding of pitching with the ability to change his speeds and locations, mixing well. Mason has a strong presence on the mound showing confidence and control of the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
