Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

12/02/2022 - Baseball Factory Academic All-American Tournament Mason is a big and tall 1B/RHP in the 2024 class. At the plate, he demonstrates his strength with power to the pull side. His hands are strong and explosive (88 exit velo) and his path is short and to the baseball. Has solid balance and rhythm during his entire swing phase. On the mound, he stays directional and is in-line with his target. His FB sat 68-70 and was in the zone. His CB sat 59-61 with 10-3 shape. Working to gain a feel on his off-speed will help him advance on the mound. In the field is the area he can make the biggest gains. A solid speed and footwork program can help him get to the next level of becoming a plus defender. Overall, there is a lot to like about his game.

07/21/2022 - Baseball Factory National World Series at IMG Academy - Session 2 (HS) Mason is a 1B/RHP prospect who showcased his skills during the National World Series. At 1B, Mason fields with sure hands and makes accurate throws. Getting into a lower fielding position can help Mason field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He gets into a simple load and works through a short swing, displaying solid pop. Mason can barrel up more baseballs by keeping his head on the ball throughout his swing. On the mound, Mason gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and accelerates through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Mason operates with a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 71mph with arm side run and sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 61-62mph with 11-5 break. Finishing with his chest over his front knee can help Mason improve his pitch command. Overall, Mason is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

02/20/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Tiverton (Providence), RI Mason is a young, 2-way player who will graduate in 2024. At 1B, Mason has efficient footwork, he covers ground well, and he presents his glove. He makes plays on balls his way, shows some feel for the backhand, he throws with an accurate arm and consistency across the diamond. Added urgency to the ball and staying low throughout the fielding position will help improve abilities at 1B. On the mound, this RHP has good balance, a loose//quick arm action, and he gets good extension on his pitches. He lands with good direction towards home, with a proper length stride, and he works in good tempo. More explosion off the rubber and added leg drive will help mound effectiveness become even better. Offensively, Mason has an athletic/open stance, good balance, and fluid/rhythmic swing. He has fast bad speed, a short/direct barrel, and he works the ball well gap the gap. Work on a sooner load, and continuing to add strength when we help solid hitting become even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
