05/25/2019 - College PREP - Salt Lake City, UT Mason continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 64-66 mph with arm side run. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/13/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Gillette, WY Mason is a hardworking outfield prospect who has a wiry, projectable build and graduates in 2021. As a right-handed hitter, Mason has a tall stance with his weight on his heels. He takes a long stride and partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Mason gets good pivot off his back foot and shows a long swing path. He has an effectively high finish. Mason is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. In the field, Mason plays hard and works to makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a low position deep in his stance. Mason has a long exchange leading into a restricted arm action throwing from a side arm slot. Overall, Mason is a well-rounded prospect who has potential to advance his skills with development.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Mason is a lean and athletic right handed hitting outfielder, who in his time in Arizona showed that he was very coachable and eager to learn new things every day. In the outfield he was aggressive in attacking the ball, as he displayed the ability to work around balls with active footwork and an athletic/low base. Hands were reliable; he showed the ability to handle short hops well and transition them cleanly from his glove to his throwing hand. Arm proved to be accurate, and throws were made on a line to his target, a product of the good momentum he was able to create. Offensively, he was aggressive in attacking the ball, as he worked his pull side often through a tall setup. He was able to generate some pop to his pull side with a quick bat and a lower 1/2 which kept his weight back throughout his swing. Working to load his hands on time into a proper position, then throwing them directly to the ball consistently, will help with power and contact to all fields. Overall, Mason is a very raw young prospect, who can achieve great things in this game if he applies himself and continues to work hard to be the best player he can be.

07/31/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Gillette, WY Mason is an OF/RHP who will graduate in 2021. In the field, Mason has good ground ball awareness and fields with sure hands. At the plate, he comes through the zone with decent bat speed and finishes with a firm front side. On the mound, Mason shows a three pitch mix with his fastball ranging from 56-60mph. Breaking ball sits from 53-57mph with 11-5 break. Changeup ranges from 52-55mph. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following. Fielding 1. Keep tighter arm angel 2. Don't drift 3. Get behind the ball Hitting 1. Shorten swing 2. Take a more direct route to the ball Pitching 1. Stay back in balance point 2. Finish in line with the plate

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
