06/12/2016 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Mason has improved his baseball abilities and shows a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting / power potential. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through a direct / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap power. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.96. Feet are aggressive, working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Arm strength has improved (85 mph velocity) with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play at the next level. Mason has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

12/20/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Mason continues to show strength in his game both offensively and defensively. At the plate, he had a short/quick stroke that got the barrel to and through the zone with strength. He was accurate with the barrel and had good feel for the strike-zone. He showed present pop with upside as he begins to attack the fastball early. Defensively, he worked with quiet actions, getting around the baseball well to receive, sticking balls with a firm wrist. He was sure with the glove and threw with arm strength down to second. Anticipation down to block was evident as he deadened the ball in front. All in all - Mason has another year to fine-tune his catching skills to prep for the next level.

10/11/2015 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Mason is a tall, solid, and athletic catcher that will graduate in 2017. He has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a quick / clean exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Top pop time was 2.18 seconds and he showed accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills shows as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup and tracks the ball well. Hands are quick, generating bat speed as they work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Exit velocity was 85 mph, one of the top numbers of the day. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to level out swing path, staying on top of ball. Also ran a 7.15 60 yard dash, excellent for a catcher with his size and power at the plate. With 2 years to further develop, Mason has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
