11/06/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Tomball (Houston), TX Mateo is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame athletic build with strength present and room to add throughout. At SS, he takes aggressive routes to batted balls, with fluid/active feet, and showed ability to play through the ball. He works from down to up, with ability to pick out hops, and fields from an athletic/square fielding position with a low funnel. Showed a glove angle with soft hands out front. Has a short/quick arm stroke in back, with ability to throw from multiple arm slots, and an arm velocity up to 87mph. On the mound, he gets a good rear hip coil and keeps his front side closed throughout delivery. He works with good tempo and showed ability to repeat his delivery. Attacks hitters with a FB that sits 82-84mph with arm side run and plus command. He mixes in an 11/5 shaped breaking ball that flashes good depth, a slider from the same window as CB that has tight spin, and a changeup with arm side run that he throws with FB arm speed. SL was best pitch during his bullpen session. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and square stance. He hits into a firm front side and has a fast barrel through the hitting zone. A direct barrel path as he keeps his hands inside the ball. Made hard contact to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 88mph. With another year of growth and development, we foresee Mateo having opportunities to play at the next level.

07/21/2021 - Baseball Factory Southwest Championships 16U Mateo is a 2023 INF out of Austin, TX who continues to show as a prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. At SS, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth/athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is clean and presents out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry (87 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine with excellent hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through a squared, crouched setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength (84 mph exit velocity) in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 5 for 10 with a 2B.

05/16/2021 - All-In Membership - Houston, TX Mateo is a SS who will graduate in 2023. Athletic build with strength present and projectable frame with room to fill throughout. Primary SS, active feet who showed ability to cover ground in all directions during his workout. Good rhythm to his actions with good 1st steps allow him create good fielding angles. Keeps eyes behind the ball and fields the ball out front in a low fielding position. Creates momentum on his throws across the diamond, with a high 3/4 arm slot, and are accurate/on-line. Recorded an arm velocity of 85mph during his workout. Right-handed hitter begins with an athletic and square stance. Smooth swing, with short stride, and direct to the ball. Hit balls hard to both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 82mph during BP. As he continues to mature and develop, we see him having an opportunity to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
