01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament
Mateo lowered 60 time to 7.37 and increased hitting numbers at the UA Pre-Season. He is a strong corner INF with clean actions, an athletic fielding position, and smooth footwork. He is sure handed, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy from a loose arm action to his target. Offensively, Mateo makes hard/consistent contact through explosive bat speed. He has loose hands, a square set-up, and he hits with pop to the pull side.
06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18)
Mateo is a big, solid 1st baseman with improving skills. He moves well for his size, footwork is active, and he fields out in front of his body. He gains momentum toward his target, makes plays consistently, and throws with good direction. At the plate, Mateo stands in athletically and swings with strength. He has good balance, solid barrel accuracy, and he hits line drives.
12/27/2018 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18)
Mateo is a tall, solid, and athletic 1B who has a promising future on the mound. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a compact swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 3 years to further develop, Mateo has potential with time and room to progress his game.
