06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Mateo is a C prospect who showcased his skills during the All-State Tournament. Behind the dish, Mateo is efficient moving to block and covers up well. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with a firm glove. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate/on-line throws through the 2B bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth to load and works through a direct swing with fast bat speed, producing strong line drives. Overall, Mateo is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Mateo is an athletic R/R catcher who continues to shine and did so again at the All-Region Tournament. With the bat, this righty stands in well with a square/athletic setup with fluid rhythm to load. He maintains good balance, whips the barrel with + bat speed and swings against a firm front-side. He squares the ball up and hits line-drives from gap-to-gap. Behind the plate, he sits in well with athletic actions and good flexion. He tracks pitches into a soft mitt and frames the ball well. Transfer is quick/clean with accuracy on his throws - pop times at 2.19. Yamato is a skilled catching prospect who has a bright future ahead in the game.

01/12/2020 - Interactive Video Program - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Mateo is a tall/athletic catcher who will graduate in 2024. Behind the plate, Mateo has a low/athletic set-up, fluid footwork, and soft hands. He tracks it well, blocks softly, and his exchange is clean with a short/accurate arm to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.25 seconds. Offensively, Mateo has a square/athletic stance, loads well, and swings in good rhythm. He has fast bat speed, makes square/level contact, and uses his lower body well. Overall skills can get even better with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
