Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

04/16/2023 - National Showcase - Seattle, WA Mathew is a 2023 3B/RHP prospect with a strong frame at 5'7" 190 pounds. At third, he does a good job pre-pitch of getting in a good ready position. His feet are active and he shows range to all angles. He gets in a low fielding position and does a great job of fielding the ball out in front. His backhand is impressive. He has a quick exchange and makes strong, accurate throws to his targets across the diamond. At the plate, he starts with an open stance and has a short stride to the pitcher. He gets a good load and has a solid lower half that helps him drive the ball to all fields. He throws the knob of his bat to the ball and makes hard consistent contact. His hips help him work through the baseball and he does a good job of finishing through the baseball. He flashes some pop to the pull side. On the mound, he shows off a loose arm from a 3/4 arm slot. His delivery is quiet and he displays impressive balance throughout. He gets good, on-time separation and rotates to his target. His legs drive towards the plate. His FB has some tail and he throws consistent strikes with it. His SL has gradual break and his CH has some late run. Mathew is an impressive prospect that has a good chance of playing at the next level!

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
