08/11/2020 - All-In Membership - Trenton, NJ Matias is a crafty lefty who throws strikes. On the mound, this lefty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a low 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He has smooth separation and repeats his delivery well. He works to keep the ball down in the zone which will result in GB outs. FB ranges from 67-70 mph while showing good arm-side run as he commands it to both sides of the plate. Curveball has 2/8 shape - 59-61 mph. Continuing to develop his off-speed will help to improve overall effectiveness on the mound. As a hitter, this lefty has a tall/open stance with patience. He tracks pitches into the zone, whips the barrel with speed and connects, driving the ball to all parts of the field. Striding more square while engaging/driving his lower 1/2 will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Only a 2023 grad - Diaz has skills with still time to develop to get to where he wants to be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
