01/07/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (AZ) Matias showed well on the mound during his time at the Pre-Season AA. He is a smooth lefty with a good arm circle, aggressiveness in the zone, and solid balance throughout his delivery. Matias has a quick arm, on-time separation, and a good finish toward the plate. He holds runners on base well, he mixes off-speed consistently, and he keeps the ball down in the zone. Matias is a crafty LHP with a bright future.

12/27/2021 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Matias continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities at the Recruiting classic showcase. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He moves well laterally with range improving as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well as he transfers weight into a firm front side. At the event, he was 3 for 9 with 3 2B. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 83 mph. Fastball shows a range of 81-83 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and great team player.

12/12/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Union City, CA Matias is a class of 2023 LHP prospect with a good frame and athletic ability. At the plate, he does a great job of keeping his hands inside of the ball and keeping his barrel in the zone. Has a line drive approach and creates consistent square contact. Does a good job using his lower 1/2 throughout his swing. Showed power potential with exit velos up to 82 MPH. On the mound, he does a good job of trying to work ahead and work down in the strike zone. Shows clean mechanics overall and has a good arm action. Best pitch is his curveball with 1-7 breaking action. Showed a changeup in the 73-75 MPH range while his fastball worked up to 81 MPH. Matias is a well rounded prospect with another 2 years to continue to develop before entering college.

10/17/2021 - All-In Membership - San Jose, CA Matias is a projectable 2023 LHP/OF. On the mound, Matias demonstrated the ability to throw strikes and repeat his mechanics time after time. His fastball had arm side run while his breaking ball exhibited late break from a 1-7 shape. His Changeup had good deception keeping arm speed similar to fastball. Defensively, he attacks the ball with active feet from the outfield being able to get behind the ball and work through it making accurate throws to cut. Offensively, Matias uses a square set up with a long stride to make consistent contact. He showed gap to gap pop with most of the power going to the pull side. Overall, Matias showed very well in San Jose and if not already will start to draw interest from collegiate coaches.

02/21/2021 - All-In Membership - San Jose, CA Matias is an athletic OF/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
