01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matt continues to show well on the mound. This reliable righty repeats his delivery well. He attacks hitters, throwing strikes and working ahead in the count. FB still sits in the low 80's as he challenges hitters to swing the bat. He has smooth separation, gets strong glove side lead/tuck and drives off of the rubber in-line toward the dish. Slider has 11/5 shape with good action as he can throw it for strikes in any count. Clementoni will pound the zone and give his team a chance every time he toes the rubber.

05/24/2015 - College PREP - Wappinger Falls, NY ****7/1/2015 Matthew was recently gunned in a game setting and velo range was 80-83. The following notes are from a bullpen session on 5/24/2015**** Matthew continues to show improvements in his abilities on the mound. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run with late life. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate.

03/22/2015 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Matthew, a RHP, continues to pound the zone. He showed a quick pace, worked to good balance point and stayed directional towards the plate. Engaging lower 1/2 and experimenting with different arm slots/grip will create more movement on his pitches and create a greater challenge for the hitter. At the plate, he showed a solid, square, contact swing with potential pop to the pull side. In all - Matthew continues to improve his abilities on the mound and with the stick.

10/15/2014 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Matthew is a talented RHP with a bright future on the mound. Matthew pounds the zone with his fastball and works to get ahead of hitters early. His fastball had good arm side run and he also showcased a slider with good depth. With his mound presence and ability to throws strikes Matthew will be a nice option as a starter or reliever. Offensively, he starts his swing with a good load, has strong balance, and makes consistent contact. He keeps a still head and has a very simple approach. Matthew understands how to piece together quality at bats and will fit well in any lineup as he moves forward.

07/07/2014 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Matt showed well in his most recent Factory outing. Defensively, he was efficient with his feet and sound with his body control. He received with sure hands and was quick and low to block. Offensively, he displayed quick hands to hit with a direct path. He got good extension through contact and was accurate with the barrel. On the hill, he threw a FB, CB and CH. He had good mound presence with his size and got to a good balance point. In all - Matt is an athletic/lean player that shows the ability to play multiple positions at the next level.

04/27/2014 - National Tryout - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Matthew continues to show as a C/RHP but currently projects best behind the plate for the next level where he has improved his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid average power numbers through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat, mainly to the pull side. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he through his lowest time to date at 2.27. Times will continue to improve as he works to build more arm strength and works to get rid of the baseball quicker through his transfer / exchange. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-76 mph on a downhill plane. Changeup is best off speed pitch, showing a feel for with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Command / control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program.

07/15/2013 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Matthew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, feet are active as he works to square balls up and makes the routine plays, displaying clean hands. Defensive grades will continue to improve as he learns to attack ground balls more, play through and present hands more out front. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest pop to date at 2.30. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level as he continues to improve. Throws are accurate and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Matt is a 2016 graduate who plays short stop and pitches. In the field he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm action. His hands are firm and his footwork is active. He stays under control with his approach and gains momentum towards target. Would like to see him field out in front more and present the glove sooner to make sure he stays consistent in the field. At the plate Matt has a balanced set up and keeps his hands back with his load. He takes a short stride and has stable balance during his swing. He uses his lower half and flashes fast bat speed. He has an inside out swing and squared the ball in the games with a good sound approach. On the mound Matt flashed a good sinking fastball that he kept down in the strike zone. His curve has a 11/5 shape and he is able to throw strikes with his pitch as well. He gets good extension and comes to a good balance point with each delivery. His shoulders are level and he stays in line with his finish. He is very athletic on the mound and competes hard when having the ball in his hands. His breaking ball has a lot of upside and could be a future strike out pitch for him. With Matt's skills, he will only get better and his athletic ability will continue to take him far in the game of baseball.

07/22/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Matt is an average sized, athletic SS / RHP with a thin frame. In the INF, Matt has soft / sure hands, fluid / active feet, and he moves well laterally. He plays on the balls of his feet, makes the routine play, and his exchange is quick and clean. Matt has a short / loose arm action and he throws with average strength and good accuracy to his target. On the mound, Matt has a long / free arm action, a controlled balance point, and good glove side lead. He has on-time separation, he keeps his shoulders level, and he has good direction toward home. Matt keeps his head on target and finishes in a complete position. At the plate, Matt has a square set-up, good balance, and average bat speed. He has a level swing, he makes consistent contact, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
