12/20/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City
Matt showed good coachability, hard work, and the drive to improve during his time in Pirate City. Behind the plate, Matt sits in small, he has a good set-up, and he receives the ball well. He has a quick / clean exchange, good direction, and he throws with a fluid arm action to his target. Offensively, Matt has an athletic set-up, an on-time launch, and a level swing. He makes hard contact to the pull side and shows good barrel accuracy.

Matt continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting and power grades have improved as well through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Feet are active as he works in line to his target and gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. Pop times were in the 2.35 range. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level.

Matt is a catcher with a solid and athletic build who will graduate in 2015. Behind the plate, Matt has soft / sure hands, quiet actions, and he sits in low. He takes good angles to block, he deadens softly, and he throws with a long arm action to 2nd base. Catching can improve if Matt can square up his stance, improve his footwork, and add arm strength. Offensively, Matt has an athletic set-up, good balance, and a short / square stride. He has quick hand, he swings in good rhythm, and he gets proper extension through the ball. Hitting grades can improve if Matt can work on his lower 1/2 and shorten his swing.
