07/13/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Minneapolis, MN Matt is a hard worker who continues to develop. Defensively, he shows active footwork moving well into a square fielding position. Exchange is clean with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, Matt has a balanced setup with patience. He takes a hack and looks to drive the middle of the field. Relaxing/loosening his grip will allow for more bat whip increasing his pop off of the barrel. Matt is a 2018 grad who still has time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Matt is a coachable player who worked very hard on his skills during his time in Pirate City. He is willing to make adjustments to be the best player he can be. At 3B, he is fundamentally sound, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up, presenting sure glove well out front. Continuing to develop his foot speed will help to increase range in the MIF. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and he makes consistent contact. He shows good strike zone awareness and is aggressive with ball in the zone. Power will increase as he builds more overall body strength and utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 2 for 3 with 2 BB. Matt has a good feel for the game and plays with a lot of energy.

10/25/2015 - College PREP - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN Matt is a R/R 3B who graduates in 2018. At the hot corner, he hustles into a square fielding position and tracks GB's into his mitt. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Defensive skills will improve if he can; present his glove more out in front, develop his footwork/agility and increase his arm strength (long toss). As a hitter - Matt displays an athletic setup with good balance. Swing is level through the zone as he connects and drives the middle of the field. More lower 1/2 drive will help to tap into more power potential. Matt is a few adjustments away from unlocking his potential on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
