06/20/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Matt displayed strong ability once again, in the tournament setting with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he worked hard and handled the ball in the zone very well. He showed a hard nose mentality and dropped quickly to block. Offensively, he stayed gap to gap with his simple approach and was aggressive to swing at pitches in the zone. When his timing was on he challenged the defense putting the ball in play. Overall - Matt is a tough young man that works hard and always leaves it out on the field.

04/26/2015 - National Tryout - Union City, CA Matt continues to show well. With the bat, this RH swinger shows a balance approach with smooth rhythm to load. He takes an aggressive hack, squares the ball up and utilizes his lower 1/2 well. Behind the dish, he receives with a soft mitt yet sticks pitches in the zone. Exchange is clean and he works in-line toward his target at 1B. Working to quicken is transfer/exchange will help pop times to continue to drop. A talented all-around player - Matt will find success on the diamond.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matt is an athletic backstop with a 5'9/185 lbs frame. Offensively, he showed a good approach at the plate and had late explode with the barrel. He showed gap-to-gap pop and has a chance to hit at a high level. Behind the plate, he received in front with a soft/sure glove and gained ground to throw to second. He worked with good lateral range and dropped down quickly to block - deadening the ball in front. In all - Freeman has another year and a half left to add strength and consistency for next level play.

07/31/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Southwest Championships 18U Participant Good build, strong features, plays at a quick pace, good blocking with balls in the dirt, good catch and throw guy, 2.20 down to 2B, good approach at the plate, contact hitter, runs well, athletic

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
