Official Scouting Report

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Matt is a strong-built, coachable outfield prospect who graduates in 2019. Offensively, Matt has a tall setup with a centered balanced and lower half leading his swing starting with a square stride. He has good hand eye coordination with fast bat speed. He is a tough out and puts the ball in play. Matt is patient hitter with the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. In the outfield, Matt plays with active footwork and has an effective first step giving him a good jump on the ball. He presents his glove as he approaches the ball. Matt has a good arm and is working to speed up his release. Overall, Matt is a hardworking prospect who has the talent to continue to develop his skills.

09/25/2016 - College PREP - Scranton, PA Matt is a tall, athletic OF prospect who continues to improve in all aspects of his game. His best tool remains the ability to make consistent contact at the plate with a good feel for the barrel and hitting the ball hard. He has added some good pop to his swing with a very quick bat through the zone and we expect more power to come as he grows into his large frame. His natural rhythm and bat path have set the foundation for what we expect to be a very good swing at maturity. In the outfield, this prospect has really improved his reads on fly balls and now makes running down balls in the gap look easy. He does a good job of playing through the ball and gaining momentum to his target to throw. Implementing a long toss program will increase arm strength and make him a complete outfielder. Matt shows his improvement each time we see him and we are excited to continue watching him take more steps in his progression.

09/27/2015 - College PREP - Scranton, PA Matt is a tall, lean 2019 grad with time to fill out. In the OF, he works around the ball with quiet feet and a loose, long arm. His ball shows some life to the target and will see more carry with a long toss program. On the mound, Matt works with good tempo and smooth rhythm to the plate from the high 3/4 arm slot. His ball shows natural run into a righty with 2 secondary pitches that keep the hitters in check. At the plate, this RHH hits from a slightly open stance with a contact swing. He is balanced throughout the entirety of his swing with solid bat speed. Spreading out his feet in his stance and using his lower 1/2 will allow Matt to drive the ball deeper into the gaps. In all, Matt has plenty of time to hone his skills for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
