Matt continues to develop on the diamond. He has worked hard and molded himself into quite a 2-way prospect. On the mound, his arm works loose & free through simple/repeatable mechanics. He pumps his FB into the mitt, now topping out at 87 mph. He works both sides of the plate and can paint the corners. Breaking ball compliments FB well while showing 12/6 shape with sharp action. In the OF, he is quick to track down fly-balls in the gaps with speed. Smooth/athletic actions allow him to play through the ball with a quick/clean exchange. Offensively, he shows a balanced approach with a solid base. He waits for his pitch and squares it up. This 6'2"/190 2-way player will compete at a high level.

Hodges continues to show in the OF/LHP. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Defensive grade are outstanding as displays quick / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and shows big play potential. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 5 with 2 BB as is patient and shows a good recognition of the strike zone. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity of 82 mph. Fastball showed a range of 81-82 mph with arm side run / sink. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape, flashing sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing good arm side run and sinking action. Off speed pitch show potential of being quality pitches as he continues to improve. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed through a long toss program.

Feet are quick, athletic as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through well with momentum to his target. He reads balls off the bat, displaying range with an accurate arm. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he uses his lower half more. At the event, he was 2 for 5.

Matt continues to show outstanding baseball abilities in his play. Feet are quick, athletic as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the OF. He reads balls well off the bat and takes proper first steps in tracking down balls and gets behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Throws display life, accuracy and on line carry through his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup with balance / rhythm. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 6 for 16 with a 3B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be.

This talented OF continues to make improvements. He ran his lowest 60 time to date, running a 7.25. Continuing to quicken his foot-speed will benefit his OF play. In the OF, he is aggressive and takes a quick 1st step to get in a good fielding position. He has a quick exchange and makes strong throws toward his target. Offensively, the lefty shows a simple approach and gets into a solid load position. He has some pull side pop through a level hack. Increased power will come with better use of his lower 1/2. Matt has a solid all around skill-set and bright future in the game.

Matt again showed very solid abilities during his time at the UA Preseason. At the plate, Matt has a balanced approach, an athletic set-up, and fast bat speed. He gets his lower 1/2 through, he is short to the ball, and he swigs in good rhythm. Defensively, Matt is sure handed, he fields out front athletically, and he takes good angles. He works behind it well, his exchange is clean, and he delivers the ball with life and accuracy to his target.

Hodges continues to show outstanding abilities in the OF and at the plate with the makings of a special type player as he continues to improve. Feet are active as he reads balls well off the bat, getting great jumps in tracking down balls in the OF. He works to get behind and plays through well as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry to his target. At the plate, Matt continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through the ball at contact, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and displays gap-to-gap power. At the event, he was 5 for 12 with 2 2B and 3 BB. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a team player with a positive attitude.

Matt is a young, talented OF with very good skills. Defensively, Matt has sure hands, active feet, and he takes good angles to the ball. He moves athletically, works around the ball well, and his exchange is clean. Matt has a long / loose arm action, and he throws with carry and accuracy to his target. More aggressiveness, catching the ball at its highest point, and finishing his throws can help improve defensive tool grades. At the plate, Matt has a square / athletic set-up, good balance, and good barrel accuracy. He tracks the ball well, swings on a level plane, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. A looser grip, more direct hands to the ball, and better extension will help solid hitting get even better.
