Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • Position Projection

01/01/2013 - 2013 Baseball Factory Top 100, powered by Under Armour LHP with an athletic, repeatable delivery who has had big velocity jump this spring - reports up to 95. Throws solid three pitch mix for strikes.

06/17/2011 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (AZ) - 2011 Krook showed similar abilities as we had previously seen at the All American showcase. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.18. He moves well in the OF and takes good routes / angles but needs to work on getting behind balls to play through more with momentum to his target. Arm slot is low causing tail on his throws and needs to develop better footwork to get rid of the ball quickly with two hands working together. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry. Offensively, Matt continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed with good extension through the ball at contact. Swing path gets long as he is rotational through the upper half but will work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power is best to the pull side with ball exploding off his bat. At the event, he was 9 for 17 with a 3B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 85-88 mph, flashing some sink. Breaking ball is a power breaker that will get outs at all levels. He needs to work on better command of pitch. Changeup shows solid feel with tight rotation and good movements. Command and control can be an issue at times. Krook has an upside on the mound and could possibly be a solid draft in 2013.

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Matt is an athletic 6'3" lefty who excels as both a pitcher and outfielder. On the mound he carves up hitters with a mix of a tailing fastball that tops out at 88mph and a cutter that he runs into RH hitters. He also shows a slurvy breaking ball with some depth and a change. Matt's delivery is low-effort, his arm works free and easy and he showed advanced command of all his offerings. His LH stroke at the plate is smooth and his quick hands generate bat speed. Although his ceiling is highest on the mound, he has a chance to be an impact bat at the college level as well. Matt is an impressive young prospect to follow closely.

12/05/2010 - College PREP - Oakland, CA Matt is a young (2013) LHP with a tall, lanky frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Delivery is repeatable displaying sound mechanics that allows his quick arm action to work loose and free to the plate. He gets good extension to the plate with his arm and body. Arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his top velocity of 88 mph. Fastball shows a range of 81-88 with a means of 86 mph with arm side run. Off speed pitches are quality out pitches for the next level. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with tight spin and sharp downward action. Changeup shows a plus feel for with arm side run. He attacks hitters as he is aggressive with his fastball but will change speeds well, locating to both sides of the plate. Krook continues to show off his athletic abilities at the plate displaying outstanding hitting abilities and power. Hands are quick, generating superior bat speed with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. With 3 years to further develop, Matt has a huge upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches and pro scouts as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
