12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2
Matt worked out at 1B and also threw off the mound during his time in Pirate City. Defensively, Matt moves well around the bag, his feet play well, and he keeps the ball in front. He makes plays and throws with a high 3/4 arm slot with decent strength to his target. On the mound, Matt has a good presence, a deceptive delivery, and good direction toward home. His FB touched 78 mph and he mixed in his off-speed pitches well. At the plate, Matt has good balance, a square set-up, and a quick bat. He has good strike zone awareness, he makes consistent contact, and he flashes some pop in his bat.
09/25/2011 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA
Matt is a big and strong 2-way player who has a 1st baseman's build. Defensively, he has playable feet and funnels the ball into his glove well. He can pick balls and makes throws with life to his target. Playing on the balls of his feet and softening up his hands on groundballs will help defensive abilities improve. On the mound, he delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot and throws 4 different pitches. Matt has good balance, level shoulders, and finishes complete in an athletic position. His pitching abilities will improve if he can loosen his back arm action and increase his arm strength. At the plate, he has good bat speed with quick hands. He does well getting his lower 1/2 through, creating pop off of the bat. Matt is a solid 2-way player who should get some college looks.
