Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

03/11/2018 - College PREP - Albuquerque, NM Matt is a C/RHP graduating in 2020. Behind the plate, Matt shows active feet and gains ground to make plays. He gets into a square fielding position and presents his glove early, quickly dropping to his knees when he needs to block. Matt shows a clean exchange and a short arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot. He shows consistent accuracy to his targets, using his momentum to throw the ball on a line. At the plate, Matt shows an athletic set up with an on-time stride and a good load. He keeps a firm front leg through his on-plane swing path. He makes square contact and sprays the ball to all fields. Matt could benefit from a smaller leg kick and letting the ball get deeper, which would allow him to make more consistently hard contact. On the mound, Matt throws from a 3/4 arm slot and repeats his delivery well. He throws a FB, CB and CH, showing upside with every pitch. Matt could improve the accuracy for all his pitches by keeping his head over the center of his body, also preventing him from falling back. He could also improve his velocity by implementing a long toss program. With another year of development and added strength from natural growth, Matt could play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
