10/05/2016 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic The progress Matt continues to make is striking as he has shown big improvement in all aspects of his game. From arm strength to instincts behind the plate to his impressive swing at the plate, he has become an extremely exciting player to watch. Behind the dish, he is a stud, controlling all aspects of the game and presenting himself as an asset to his pitchers with the receiving and blocking skills that allow pitchers to throw any pitch in any count. He has soft hands and presents a low target with active feet to block balls in the dirt. His exchange and release are quick and clean with the arm strength that leads to pop times at just 2 seconds. At the plate, he stays inside the ball well to use all fields with his level, direct swing path. His head is quiet and finished over the plate to track the ball to the barrel and make hard contact. His lower half generates power and extension through contact allows him to drive the ball. Increasing overall strength will help his tools play up even more and make him a dangerous player on both sides of the ball. Matt already has the look of a next level player and has a very bright future ahead of him.
