10/13/2019 - College PREP - Romeoville (Chicago), IL Matt continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.10 with accuracy and zip (82 mph velocity) on his throws. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to square up stance and work to get his body down sooner. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through a crouched setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

08/12/2018 - College PREP - Elgin (Chicago), IL Matt is a strong C/1B prospect who continued to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Matt gives good effort and works to block balls in the dirt. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws to 2B, keeping them around the bag. Matt can improve as a C by setting up in a more athletic primary stance. At 1B, Matt shows a good prep step and makes the routine plays. He makes a clean exchange to throw and works to make accurate throws to his target. Matt can improve as a 1B by quickening his footwork to field. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He lets the ball travel and keeps his hands inside the ball. Matt can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. With four more years to develop, Matt has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Matt continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean / transfer exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.48 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. He shows a solid setup and soft glove action, sticking balls in the zone well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process with skill improving as he improves flexibility. At the plate, power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

07/30/2017 - Interactive Video Program - River Forest (Chicago), IL Matt is a tall, thick C/3B. Defensively at 3B, he shows fluid footwork as he works into a low/athletic fielding position. He fields GB's with soft hands and makes strong throws to his target. Behind the plate, this catcher displays a square/quiet setup. He gains ground and stays directional as he makes accurate throws down to 2B. With the stick, Matt presents an athletic setup with smooth rhythm to load. He creates power by exploding his lower 1/2 through and drives pitches with hard contact. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
