09/01/2013 - College PREP - Kansas City, MO Matt showed as a RHP plus in the OF for the first time and has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid runner at 7.32. He utilizes his quick / athletic in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and displays sure hands. For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to work on getting behind balls more and play through with momentum to his target. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing slightly above average hitting and power grades. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his best velocity to date, topping out at 79 mph. Fastball shows a range of 76-79 mph. He maintains arm speed on changeup with breaking ball displaying 10/4 shape with slight action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program.
