04/14/2019 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Matt is an athletic 6'0 senior that continues to produce consistent performances. At second base, he shows a strong arm (85mph Raw Velo) and good range. Matt gets into an athletic fielding position, taking aggressive first steps to attack the ball. Matt makes quick, clean exchanges and delivers consistent throws to first and second base. At the plate, he strides on time and keeps his balance centered. Matt gets his swing on plane and shows gap to gap power (Exit Velo 92 mph) using all fields. On the mound, Matt's fastball sits 78-81 mph with tailing action. The curveball shows 11-5 sharp break and can be thrown frequently for strikes. Matt keeps FB arm speed on the changeup at 57-59 mph and shows good movement with frequent strikes. Overall, Matt's command with three pitches continues to shine as a plus on the mound. Matt has shown continued improvement and development in his game over the past three years.

10/10/2018 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Matt continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (93 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At 2B, he continues to shine, displaying smooth / clean actions. He attacks ground balls and moves well laterally, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-81 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch, with slight sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, working to get ahead of hitters. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/30/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Matt is an athletic C/2B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Matt shows efficient footwork and is agile moving to block. He sits in an athletic stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. He shows a quick release on his throws to 2B and keeps them accurate with good carry through the bag. At 2B, Matt shows quick footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front. He makes a clean exchange with a quick release on his throws, keeping them accurate with good carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an atheltic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and hits from a strong front side. He takes a direct swing to the ball with decent bat speed which leads to hard contact and line drives. Overall, Matt is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

06/24/2018 - College PREP - Tacoma (Seattle), WA Matt is a talented RHP/2B prospect who has an athletic build. On the mound, Matt has balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a clean arm action and extends through his release. Matt effectively uses his front side and stays square to home plate with a controlled landing. He commands 3 pitches with good movement. His fastball has tail movement at 77-82 MPH. Offensively, Matt has a tall setup with a centered balance. He has fluid rhythm with a good load and on-time stride. Matt has an aggressive approach with quick hands. He shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path producing hard contact. Matt is a line drive type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. In the field, Matt plays with effective pre-pitch actions and shows good range. He presents his glove and fields the ball in an athletic position. Matt has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Matt is a well-rounded prospect who has a versatile skill set.

06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Matt continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 76 mph. Fastball showed a range of 75-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. He attacks balls and plays through with his body. Range will continue to increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Matt is a lean, athletic RHP/SS who will graduate in 2019. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. At the event, he was 4 for 12. At SS, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the event, he was 6 for 11. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-76 mph with tailing action with an 11/5 shape breaking ball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. With 3 years to further develop, Matt has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
