12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Matt is a coachable 1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, Matt shows efficient footwork and displays good range, especially to his glove side. He fields the ball out in front of his body and makes consistently accurate throws to his target. Matt can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting back into his load and finishes with a firm front side in his lower half. He produces decent bat speed and gets good extension on his swing which leads to square contact. Matt can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. Overall, Matt is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

12/03/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Lewiston, ME Matt showed nice improvements offensively and defensively during his last workout. Hitting and power grades both spiked to 48s, showing a tall set-up, quick hands, and good feel for the barrel of the bat. Matt loads well, has good balance, and fast bat speed with strength in his swing. At 1st base, Matt moves with agility to the ball, feet are active, and his exchange is clean. He makes plays on balls hit his way, and throws accurately from a quick release to his target.

07/17/2017 - College PREP - Rindge, NH Matt is a talented first base prospect who has a well-rounded game and graduates in 2020. As a right-handed hitter, Matt has a tall stance with a centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and an on-time stride. Matt has a short swing path producing hard contact. He has the ability to drive the ball to each gap and potential to add more power. In the field, Matt plays with effective pre-pitch actions and active footwork. He presents his glove and has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action. Matt has a quick release throwing from a 3/4 arm slot showing consistently online throws across the diamond. He also moves smooth around the bag with good footwork. Overall, Matt has a good approach to the game on both sides of the ball and good potential to get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
