01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matt showed most recently with Baseball Factory with a 6'/205 lbs catcher's frame. Defensively, he had an advanced skill set, receiving in front with a sure glove, and working his feet to pop up and throw in the 2.0 range. He was accurate, throwing on the bag with carry. Offensively, he hit to all fields with strength and was direct with the barrel to contact. He generated plus bat speed with hand & hip coordination and the ball jumped when centered (94 mph exit velo). He was 3 for 5 in game play with 3 singles, and a walk. In all - Matt has the durable frame and catch and throw skill that plays at the next level, and as a bonus, can hit.

10/15/2014 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Matt showed some of his best play ability to date, especially on the defensive side of the ball at the AZ Junior Fall Classic with Baseball Factory. Behind the dish, he received with a sure glove and was quick down to block. He showed good footwork to recover and with a shorter arm stroke will continue to lower his pops. Offensively, he had good balance and was coordinated with his hands and hips to get the barrel down to contact. He has strong presence in the box and with a more simple lower half load will be more consistently on-time. Overall - Matt is a promising backstop that has another two seasons to add consistency and strength for the next level.

07/25/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U Participant 7/25 - Strong thick lower half, good presence at the plate, blocked well with quick release and transfer, 2.12 pop time showed bat speed with some pop to gaps

07/18/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One West Matt continues to show improvements in his abilities in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he has improved his hitting grades, now showing outstanding abilities through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing, with baseball jumping off the bat when centered as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields, displaying gap to gap power. At the event, he was 1 for 4 and barrel up the ball on all plate appearances. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Feet are active as he works in line as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws are accurate with pop times showing in the low 2.10 range. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools at the next level.

04/13/2014 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Matt is a sophomore catcher with a 6'/195 lbs frame. Offensively, he showed good hit ability with his controlled approach and strong barrel delivery. He creates backspin at contact and gets extended through to finish. Staying compact with the barrel delivery and relaxing the shoulders will enable quicker hands and greater power potential. Defensively, he has good tracking ability and sure hands to receive. He has a clean exchange and flashed pop times in the low 2.0s. He was aggressive down to block - anticipating and recovering. In all - Matt is a promising young player that has a couple of seasons left to refine his ability for next level play.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
