07/23/2018 - College PREP - Florence (Cincinnati), KY Tyler is a tall 3B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At 3B, Tyler centers the ball in the middle of his body and presents his hands out in front. He makes a clean exchange and is consistently on-line with his throws. Tyler can improve defensively by attacking the ball more aggressively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He shows a smooth rhythm and leads well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives. Tyler can improve as a hitter by loading his lower half more. On the mound, Tyler keeps his head on target and comes to a balance point over the rubber. He extends through well on his release and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Tyler shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph. Curveball sits from 60-61mph with 11-5 break. Slider ranges from 64-69mph. Changeup sits from 64-65mph with good arm side run. Tyler can improve as a pitcher by striding directly towards the plate. Overall, Tyler is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Tyler continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting abilities has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

09/17/2017 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Tyler showed at 3B and behind the plate as a catcher for the first time at the event. He continues to show improvements and progress in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, working to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays proper footwork in attacking balls and playing through well. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.19 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone but will benefit by presenting a lower target. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner and improve lateral movement to improve grade.

08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Tyler continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 77 mph. Fastball showed a range of 71-77 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a very hard worker.

03/05/2017 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Matthew is a lean 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2019. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and presents a soft / sure glove well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his change but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Matthew has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
