Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

07/19/2008 - Team One North 2008 Matthew can flat out play. He has the size, strength and quickness to do well at the next level at two positions. On the mound is where Matthew really shines. He has a strong arm with velocities in the low 90's. He has a directional loose delivery with a great CB and a feel for the CH. There isn't much he can't do on the mound. At SS, Matthew has soft quick hands and proper foot work. He moves laterally well and he throws strong on-line throws to 1B. He really goes and gets it in the field. At the plate, Matthew has a short level swing with some pop to the pull side. He needs to work on his loading but he has the right idea of how to hit. He puts the bat on the ball. Overall, Matthew has the talent and ability to play at the next level and possibly beyond.

07/05/2008 - Team One South 2008 Matt is continuing to impress, and grade out well above high school average. He again showed good hands to along with active feet on defense. His arm showed life and carry, but he needs to continue working on his accuracy, and on smoothening his fielding actions. At the plate, his stance is wide and balanced. He has a very good line drive approach to all fields and shows the bat speed needed to leave the ball park. On the mound, he does fairly well with his mechanics. He still has a tendency to fall towards first base. With slight adjustments in his finish, he will gain more velocity and perhaps better control of all pitches. Overall, Matthew shows good tools with room to grow. He will continue to turn heads with his power fastball and his power at the plate.

05/18/2008 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Matt is a tall lean player with athleticism and potential at the next level at two positions. On the mound, Matt has above average arm strength with a feel for his off speed pitches. He has a loose arm and can throw any of his pitches for strikes. He separates well and uses his lower half despite falling to 1B. At SS, Matt has range and soft hands. He turns the double play well and stays light on his feet. At the plate, Matt has great bat speed and power to all fields. The ball jumps off the bat. There are not many flaws in his swing. He is a talented player and should be in high demand during his senior year.

04/20/2008 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Matthew is a tall strong defensive player with a bright future. At SS, Matthew shows an above average arm with velocity readings in the upper 80's. He is quick to the ball as his sub 7 second 60-time shows. Everything is smooth and athletic in the field. Hands are soft and he gets rid of the ball quickly and accurately. Offensively, Matthew has a short quick swing with good use of the lower half. His bat speed is above average with power to the pull side. His swing needs to become level as he popped up too many pitches. Overall, Matthew can play successfully at the next level with his defensive and athletic ability.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
