10/02/2016 - College PREP - Charlotte, NC Matthew is a tall, solid catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.28-2.38 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He shows good barrel accuracy and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. With 2 years to further develop, Matthew has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
