Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

07/10/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Matthew is a hardworking 2B/RHP prospect who plays the game with an aggressive approach. In the field, Matthew plays with firm footwork and makes the routine plays. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a square position. Matthew has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He plays through the baseball with good momentum towards his target showing accurate, strong throws. He also shows a smooth double play flip. Offensively, Matthew has a square setup with a centered balance. He has a load with a short, square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Matthew has a short, direct swing path and maintains a level barrel through the zone. He consistently lands the barrel to the baseball. Matthew is a line drive type hitter who has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. On the mound, Matthew has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes on his target and shows a clean arm action. He stays square to home plate with a controlled landing at the proper stride length. Matthew shows run movement on his fastball and late break on his curveball. Overall, Matthew is a versatile prospect who has potential to advance his game with development.

05/20/2018 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Matthew is a lean, athletic 2B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 2B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. With 2 years to further develop, Matthew has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
